Stepping Up and Our Next Collection Event

The subsidized CRT disposal program we intended to participate in has been suspended.

After much consideration it was decided that ESF will still NOT charge recycling fees. We consider recycling fees to be a barrier to recycling and would rather pay the recycling fees ourselves then see that CRT go in the trash.  We will gladly accept donations, and seek out subsidized disposal programs to help offset recycling costs, but at the end of the day, if someone has to pay to make them go away, we’re gonna step up and do it.

This is the press release for our next collection event:

Electronic Synergy Foundation is holding a free electronic recycling event in Broken Arrow.
At the Family Aquatic Center ( Central Park Pool) 1400 S. Main Street, Broken Arrow, OK 74012

This event will be held Sunday, February 22nd though Tuesday, February 24th, from 10 AM to Sundown (aprox 6:30)

Electronic Synergy Foundation is a non-profit electronic recycler whose mission is to leverage the recycling of electronics for the community benefits of environmental stewardship, economic development, and charitable works.

ESF sorts the material it receives into three categories. Reusable, Recyclable and Liability Disposal.

Reusable items are refurbished (data destruction + repairs) and sent for re-use through donation or resale.

Recyclable items are processed for their material content and recycled into new products.

“Liability disposal items are usually monitors, but may be any material where the recycling costs exceeds the value of the material produced.” states Scott Metzger, president of ESF, “No electronics should be disposed of in the trash (many laws agree with this). CRT monitors (TVs, old style monitors) are 20% Lead, and flat screens contain Mercury vapor in fragile tubes. ESF insures these items are disposed of properly.”

ESF does not charge “recycling fees” for monitors, instead ESF looks to offset the recycling costs for liability disposal items through revenue generated from it’s operations, donor support, and subsidized disposal programs. We consider the costs in keeping these monitors out of the trash as part of our mission of environmental stewardship.

Electronics to be recycled include but are not limited to: computers, cell phones, laptops, video game consoles, DVD/VCR players, televisions, monitors, and printers in any age or condition.
